Drill press
PRE-RUN CHECKLIST
Set drill speed
Use the chart on the wall to select the correct speed for your application.
Unplug drill.
Lift lid on top of machine.
By rotating pulleys, move the belt to the pair of pulleys shown on the speed chart.
Plug in drill.
Machine operation
Before raising or lowering the table, unlock it with the lever on the left side of the main column. Failure to unlock the table has resulted in costly damage to the gear rack.
Do not use the drill press for grinding or any other process that causes sideward force on the chuck.
Set depth stop so that bit won’t go further down than necessary.
Use a sacrificial backing board to prevent splintering at the bottom of the hole.
Use clamps or fence to support workpiece, especially if the piece is small.
With a spade bit, to prevent splintering, if possible, drill with two cuts. First drill until center point just comes through back of board. Then turn the board over, align the center point with the hole from the first cut (let the drill ‘find’ the center) and drill until the hole is complete. Don’t go all the way through the hole on this second cut.
POST-RUN CHECKLIST
Turn off machine.
Unplug machine.
Open top lid and set belts to a speed of 1500 rpm, which is the best speed for general-purpose drilling. Close lid
Clean up sawdust on and around machine.
Return all bits to the case where you got them.
Place chuck key on table.
