Intro to Jewelry & Metalsmithing in Portland, Maine

This hands-on beginner class introduces the foundational skills of jewelry making and metalsmithing. Students will learn to saw, form, and finish brass and copper sheet metal into jewelry from their own design. Through instructor demonstration and guided practice, students will build basic jewelry making and metalsmithing skills and leave with a finished, wearable piece: your choice of a pendant or a pair of hanging earrings.
About the instructor::
Jess Muise has spent more than 20 years teaching in the arts, with a background in jewelry and metalsmithing, dance, and arts entrepreneurship. She has managed shared artist studios and makerspaces like Artisan's Asylum, and has seen firsthand what's possible when people have real access to tools and a community to learn alongside. When not in the studio, she runs Muise Consulting, supporting nonprofits, arts organizations, artists, and creative coalitions.
